So this post is going back to the college side of my mind. But now that most decisions are coming out and choices will need to be made soon, another daunting task has came about.
On any college Facebook page or chat you join, there are the obligatory "get to know you" posts. Yes, in December they were purely to introduce yourself but now, one of the first lines mentioned is that they are looking for a roommate. After awhile, all the posts start to look alike so it is difficult to find someone that may actually be a good match. Similarly, you may seem like perfect matches on the internet, but then you meet in person and something just doesn't click.
This process can be stressful for the friendliest people because it can just be so awkward! Here are a few ways a conversation can go on the internet about being roommates:
1. You message them and they don't respond. I see how it is. Well fine then, I don't want to get to know you either! I've moved on from you and all your similar likes and dislikes! We could have been best friends!!
2. Your chat dies out so quickly because neither of you remember to keep talking. Umm, hello? Anyone still there? Oh well, moving on.
3. They start the conversation but you do not really want to continue it. Let them down easy! No thanks, but I'm not really into Live Action Role Play. But it's totally nice to meet you! ... And remember to turn off your read-receipts before you ignore their posts.
4. The one that seems to be a good match! We both want to coordinate our rooms! Both want to play tennis! You have no motivation to work out? Neither do I! Do you want to room? What? You already have a roommate? Then why the heck didn't you tell me this earlier!
Now, there is nothing wrong with going in blind for roommates and using the school survey, but a lot of people find comfort in knowing they will not be rooming with someone similar to Leighton Meester's character in The Roommate. Psychos are just not good people to room with.
Good luck seniors with this never-ending task! And may the odds be ever in your favor!
Enjoy!
