Philadelphia is Lacking

Hey my Majessties,

So, the South has something that the North pretty much lacks. And while it is normally great to see and have happen to you, it can also backfire in your face.

That little thing is called Holding Doors.

While this may happen back home in Philadelphia, we are quick to move on if the person is not close enough to hold the door for. Here though, the door is held no matter what. And while this is normally helpful, it can also get awkward because they will wait.




So, you end up doing that awkward walk quickly/jogging thing to get to the door so they do not get annoyed.

For example, just five minutes ago when I was walking into my dorm, I was talking to my mom so I was walking pretty slowly. You could imagine my surprise when I looked up to see the girl in front of me holding the door open when I was fifteen to twenty feet away. So, I started walking quickly to get to the door and right when I grabbed the door, the other one was pushed open by someone leaving the building.

Now remember, I had a door in one hand and my phone in the other. And I was in that awkward part of the doorway where both doors would hit if they close. So, while I was trying to make it through the doorway, the other door closed and shoved me into the building. Then to make matters worse, I tripped on the carpet and it was just a mess. You do not even want to know some of the looks I got. The End.

That was one time when I really wished someone had not held the door for me. Granted it was not her fault that I am a klutz and do not have four hands, but that whole thing could have been avoided if I had gotten to the door a little later. 

And I was still on the phone with my mom so all she could hear was the doors to the struggle bus being held open for me so I could get on.

Pun so intended it almost hurt to write that.

Overall, southern hospitality is more than welcomed, I am just saying, maybe a person from the North (me) will have to get used to the change and start walking faster. Just a thought.
